The Bauman Moscow State Technical University Alumni Center is here!
Last week, Bauman hosted a CyberFootprint masterclass series, organized by the Student Council of the Department of Security in the Digital World and the CyberMoscow project. The speakers talked about what their project does, touched upon many digital problems of the present time – from countering terrorism to spam calls. The participants deepened their knowledge in cyberbezo, also learned a lot of new things, and the most active received memorable gifts.
The Alumni Center decided to support the students and, together with Egor Buzaev, a 2023 graduate of the Department of Security in the Digital World, prepare an article on competent password management!
Have you ever been hacked?
Or maybe you’ve forgotten passwordthat you use on all services? You must admit that any problems with the information security of your data can lead not only to annoying attempts to change the password everywhere to a new one, but also to reputational and financial losses.
Especially for our graduates, we have prepared a short guide, following which you will be able to protect your data as much as possible:
-
In order not to invent and memorize dozens and hundreds of passwords, we suggest using a password manager. For example, it could be SafeInCloud, but it’s free KeePass will also be a great choice (here here – Setup instructions). You install a password manager on your PC and phone, create a password database, come up with and remember TWO complex passwords, and that’s it.
-
Why 2 passwords? The first one is the password to your personal Yandex/Google/other similar account. A lot of people actively use the function of generating and remembering passwords in the browser – and with its crack, all your passwords from many other services will leak. The second is from the same password database that will be synchronized between your devices using the cloud.
-
How to Come Up with and Remember Complex password? We suggest using the “passphrase” method, i.e. find a phrase that you can easily remember, for example, “Bauman University is the best technical university”, and then type it in the English layout, replacing spaces with underscores or dashes, and some letters with numbers. You’ll get something like “<fevfyrf-ke4ibq_nt[yb4tcrbq_eybdthcbntn” – “ч” мы заменили на “4”.
